My school is going bankrupt. Rather, the entire state’s university system will be going bankrupt if they don’t fix something soon. The schools will be conducting program cost effectiveness audits. Basically they’ll be cutting departments that don’t graduate enough people to warrant their cost. The physics department at my school only has about fifteen undergraduate majors. One of the reasons I was so excited about going to this school was that I’ll do real experiments in real labs (they have an electron microscope, and other cool stuff), and I’ll have opportunities to be on real research projects. But it looks like that might change. I don’t know what I’ll do if they cut the physics department. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to continue in my major or if I’ll have to find another school.
